Rocky + Luella
Time Out says
Co-owned by Julia Korol and Kate Bunton, a pair of Anthropologie veterans, this indie boutique sells men’s and women’s clothing that are both modern and timeless. The simple, minimal aesthetic allows the clothes and accessories, namely international labels making their U.S. debut (Honoré out of Paris) as well as designs from local artisans (Claranette), to really shine. In the near future, customers will be able to browse a long list of independent labels such as Ilana Kohn, Re:named, Cameo, Native Youth, Barque, Gorjana and more.
ROCKY+LUELLA is about 'less is more.' A partnership between friends Julia Korol and Kate Bunton, R+L's specialty is independent designers from the US and abroad who focus on ethical production, transparency and always effortless style. On the racks you'll find Ilana Kohn, Kowtow, Ali Golden, Osei-Duro and more. On the shelves you'll find quirky ceramics from favorites Group Partner, Liv & Dom and Workaday Handmade; skincare products from Moon Rivers Naturals; jewelry from Seaworthy and Drift/Riot; leather bags; journals; and a lot more.
HOW WE MET
Both Midwesterners at heart, Julia and Kate first met in Washington, DC, working at the same popular women's retail giant. After separately packing their bags and moving back home, the pair reunited and discovered a shared passion for the slow fashion movement and a shared disappointment in the lack of Chicago shops stocking these independent designers. ROCKY+LUELLA first opened its doors in 2014 in Logan Square. It has since moved to West Town where it continues to grow and evolve.
