There's a new concept coming to Wicker Park: a half coffee shop, half bookstore hybrid called Volumes Bookcafe. This brainchild of fellow Wicker Park resident Rebecca George is almost ready to open to the public (pending a few sluggish city approvals). Unlike other Wicker Park book veterans, this caffeine/literary hub will focus primarily on selling new books. In addition to coffee, the shop will also serve a variety of local beer and wine. Whether you're looking to knock out some work, refuel with a latte, catch up over a glass of wine or snag the newest "it" title, this will soon be your go-to place.

Volumes merges several aspects of Wicker Park effortlessly- the DIY scene, booze, and well-done coffee. Hosting poetry readings, stand up comedy and more within its’ walls, Volumes is a great place to take a friend for a coffee date or catch up on some reading in a community space that still feels cozy. In the winter, make sure you stop by to grab some of their boozy hot chocolate - it’s great. This space is a staple for anyone who truly has a heart for community-oriented businesses.

It feels like a miracle to find a new independent bookstore in the city. This charming shop combines well-curated bookshelves (with handwritten recommendation cards from the staff, like my other fave, Unabridged Books) with a coffee bar and a selection of wine and beer.
