Anna D. Shapiro is set to direct a Broadway-bound production of Kenneth Lonergan's This Is Our Youth that will first play upstairs at Steppenwolf Theatre Company this summer, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.
The 1996 drama about disaffected rich kids in New York will star Michael Cera, Kieran Culkin and, perhaps most intriguingly, 17-year-old Oak Park native and Rookie founder Tavi Gevinson, the Tribune says. The production is backed by megaproducer Scott Rudin.
Like last summer's Slowgirl, the June 10–July 27 Steppenwolf run will be sold as an off-season extra but with subscribers getting first shot at tickets, the Tribune says; the production will then transfer to New York's Cort Theatre, where it will open as the first show of the new Broadway season. Shapiro is currently directing the soon-to-open Broadway revival of Of Mice and Men with James Franco and Chris O'Dowd.
