If you’re an adventure-lover who has never been to Cedar Point, then there’s no doubt “The Roller Coaster Capital of the World®” is on your bucket list. The second-oldest amusement park in North America is home to 18 different roller coasters, including the multiple world-record holding Steel Vengeance—the first ‘hyper hybrid’ ride on earth. But it’s much more than a place to get your adrenaline fix. There’s enough on offer besides the rides to make it a fun-filled destination for all the family for days on end, from super-immersive festivals to picturesque beaches and tasty food and drink. We sent Chicago-based blogger Helen Berkun and her kids, Natan and Katalina, down to the Midwest park for a weekend of rides and relaxing. These were their seven highlights.

Immersing yourself in Forbidden Frontier on Adventure Island

Got little people in tow who aren’t tall enough to enjoy the heart-pumping experiences Cedar Point has to offer? No problem—the park’s new interactive Forbidden Frontier adventure is just as much fun for all the family, minus the height restrictions. As the day unfolds, guests have the opportunity to play a role in the unfolding story—from taking part in mind-bending challenges and group competitions to secret missions—with their choices swaying the outcome and fate of Adventure Island. No pressure!

Monster Jam

Looking for a sure-fire way to take things up a gear? Monster Jam Thunder Alley has come to Cedar Point in a big way this summer, with four experiences to enjoy until June 30. Get up close with five legendary monster trucks—including Grave Digger and Max-D—before taking a ride in one on a freestyle-inspired course. Expect it to set your pulse racing.

Dive in to the Frontier Festival

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the Midwest’s best Wild West fest. Tuck into some tasty barbecue treats and slurp on a selection of suds while listening to some foot stomping fiddle playing in the streets of Frontier Town. And once you’ve washed down your smoked and grilled goods, take part in a lasso class or dosey-doe the night away at the evening square dance.

Relaxing on Cedar Point Beach

Want to chill out after a morning of hair-raising thrills? Then head to the on-site beach! Stretching for more than a mile along Lake Erie, the soft white sands are open to all guests of Cedar Point, and make the amusement park a destination in their own right – in fact, this is what started it all back in 1870. Whether you want to build sandcastles with the kids or just sit back and relax, the Cedar Point Beach is the perfect spot.

Taking on Steel Vengeance

Sure, Steel Vengeance has already had a shout out above, but this coaster is so good it deserves a second mention. Opened last year, the steel and wood ride was voted best new ride of 2018, and it’s easy to see why. At 205 feet tall, 5,740 feet long and with speeds of up to 74mph, Steel Vengeance is reserved for serious thrill seekers only.

All day dining pass

If you’re not sure where or when to eat during your visit to Cedar Point, you can take the stress out of the occasion with the park’s All Day Dining Plan. The pass allows you to grab an entree and a side at any of the participating restaurants, and you can go back multiple times throughout the day—ensuring that no one in your group goes hungry and the maximum choice of food on offer. Yum!

No trip to Cedar Point is complete without a visit to its petting zoo (regardless of age!). The amusement park has a wonderful array of animals to pet—from farmyard staples such as goats and turkeys, through to the exotic additions of tortoises and llamas. Grab yourself some animal food, get ready to pose with your new furry friends and snap some Instagram gold.
