Challenger’s Comics + Conversation
Comic-book fans flock to this clean and organized mecca for all things comics and graphic novels. In addition to stocking the latest releases from DC, Marvel and more, the pet-friendly shop also hosts a variety of events such as book signings, gallery events and “Chattingers” (a.k.a. book discussions). 1845 N Western Ave (773-278-0155). Mon–Fri 11am–7pm; Sat, Sun 11am–5pm.

Odd Obsession
Pretension has no place at this offbeat video and DVD rental shop. (The website even claims Odd Obsession stocks something for everyone, from “discriminating taste, to bad taste, to no taste at all.”) From spaghetti Westerns to concert recordings to the latest blockbuster release, the 20,000-strong collection has it all. Now all you need to do is dig up that dusty VHS player. 1822 N Milwaukee Ave (773-276-0894). Mon–Fri 2–10pm; Sat, Sun noon–10pm.

Robin Richman
School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum Robin Richman is behind this inspiring space, where French antique fixtures and metal architectural details set off the collection of avant-garde designs. In addition to showing a handful of locally crafted accessories and designed objects (Richman keeps company with talented artists in town), she also represents a number of notable designers from across the pond on the racks and even in person for occasional trunk shows. 2108 N Damen Ave (773-278-6150). Mon–Sat 11am–6pm; Sun noon–5pm.
