A perfect after-work spot or place to bring a date (about a ten-minute walk west of the main square), Kota is a wine bar with comfy satin upholstered chairs and a rotating list of top local wines. Jazz plays over the speakers and intellectuals discuss the things smart people do. In the beer category, Leffe and Hoegaarden are available. The back end of the space – and its real raison d'être – is an architectural and design bookstore. If you are building or just interested in architecture, you are free to peruse the magazines on display and even keep building-material catalogues, which line shelves on one side of the bar. There are themed DJ nights most evenings, and live bands squeeze into a corner at weekends.
