Wine Bar Loza

A superb list of Croatian and international wines is served in friendly and knowledgeable style at Loza ('The Vine'), a civilised but cute bar that fits perfectly into what is very much a civilised but cute town. It consists of a snug atmospheric room and seven or eight tables in the narrow street at the back, immediately below Lovran church's belfry – which emits a regular sequence of loud but not unpleasant bonging noises. Candlelight, plus jazzy, soulful music on CD adds to the atmosphere. It's a good place to eat as well as tipple, with a regularly changing roster of substantial snacks – expect the likes of marinated fish, Istrian sausages, or fritaja omelettes.
