The latest addition to Split’s growing collection of chic, contemporary, design-conscious hotels is Emanuel, which occupies a stylishly-converted ground-floor flat in an attractive pre-World War I apartment block. Counterpointing the minimalist grey floors and matt-brown wall surfaces are furnishings done out in Mediterranean pastel shades of turquoise and terracotta. The bunk beds come in semi-cubicle form to provide an extra bit of privacy, and you get a free croissant & coffee deal in lieu of breakfast. Despite being only a short hop way from the Old Town, Emanuel seem to belong to a different world, nestled among leafy residential streets lined with 19th and 20th-century villas. The hostel’s social spaces are relatively small, making it something of a calming bolt-hole rather than a party palace. There is Wifi throughout; and a couple of laptops are at guests’ disposal.
