Orebić’s principal place of worship is this handsome nineteenth-century church constructed from pale stone blocks. It contains a charming sculpture of Virgin and Child above the main altar, although the main focus of interest is the side altar to the right, where a painting of St Nicholas, patron of Orebić seafarers, hangs beside another shrine to the Virgin. Silver-plated votive plaques donated by grateful worshippers depict parts of the body healed through prayer. The walls just inside the main entrance to the church are covered with framed paintings of wave-tossed sailing ships, donated by captains in thanks for deliverance from shipwreck.
