Started in 1892 as a society for music lovers, the Croatian Music Institute remains to work till this day. Over the years the organisation welcomed professional musicians, but the old spirit of amateurism and enthusiasm started by amateur musicians and music lovers is nevertheless mirrored in the fact that the headmaster doesn't take a commission for his work. Today the building of the institute doesn't just host events regarding music but other cultural manifestations such as exhibitions and literary events.
