With Valentine's Day quickly approaching, here are a few suggestions for places to take your loved one on February 14 – or get them flowers beforehand.

Cvjetni trg & Dolac
Say it with flowers they say, and the stalls at Cvjetni trg, and the steps in front of Dolac market, are the best places to find the freshest and brightest ones in town.

Bacchus Jazz Bar
By Trg Kralja Tomislava, Bacchus is one of Zagreb's most intimate music venues. The small bar has a cosy candlelit atmosphere and booths perfect for couples. The bar is often full, so it's advisable to book a table, particularly for Valentine's when it opens until midnight. Trg Kralja Tomislava 16.

Booksa
If you’re looking for a low-key location for a first date or to celebrate a relationship, try out Booksa, close to central Zagreb. The café is also a bookshop and cultural centre, and the perfect spot for quiet and intimate conversation over an exotic tea. Open on Valentine's between 10am-6pm. Martićeva 14d

Kino Tuškanac
If you’re more interested in dinner and a movie, Zagreb’s main arthouse cinemas, Kino Tuškanac, is showing Terry Gilliam's classic Brazil at 7pm on Valentine's. This bizarre take on 1984 is a sci-fi love story with a difference. Tickets €4. Tuškanac 1.

Museum of Broken Relationships
For an ironic but certainly memorable date, try out the Museum of Broken Relationships. A unique attraction in the historic Upper Town, it displays meaningful objects which were discarded after a break-up of some kind, with an accompanying heartfelt description. Open 10am-9pm on Valentine's, tickets €7. Ćirilometodska 2.
