Over three days around the Istrian resort of Savudrija, children, volunteers and divers took part in a cross-border operation to help clean the Adriatic, and to raise awareness about sea pollution.

Involving participants from Croatia and Slovenia, as well as youngsters from Ukraine, this was the eighth annual international action under the banner of Čišćenje bez granica, ‘Clean-up Without Borders’.

At this year’s accompanying workshops, focus fell on the excessive economic exploitation of the sea, most notably the dwindling fishing stocks of the Adriatic.

Concentrating on the area of the coast close to Camp Veli Jože, divers pulled out six cubic metres of waste from the sea, mostly plastic, glass and rubber.
