Digital nomads from outside the EU are still flocking to Croatia on one-year visas specifically geared for that purpose. All across Europe, countries are offering the chance for professionals to work remotely, in a scheme introduced to offset losses in local tourist industries during the pandemic.

The influx of younger residents also counterbalances the depopulation in rural areas across southern Europe, not least Croatia. Each territory has its own stipulations concerning application fees and minimum income stipulations. Croatia, which adopted the euro this January, requires that digital nomads pay an initial fee of around €60 and earn at least €2,400 a month. Remote workers are not subject to Croatian income tax.

Relatively affordable and awash with stunning surroundings to live and work, Croatia is a popular choice for those untethered to a workplace. The latest estimates give the number of digital nomads working remotely from Croatia in any given month at around 10,000.
