This August, the first Croatian International Film Festival will be staged in Šibenik, primarily to promote female talent and second-time directors. Behind the initiative is Trogir-born Ella Mische (pictured left), a New York-based actor, writer and producer who runs her own production company, Galileo Films, named after her revered grandfather.

Beginning on August 8 and running for four days, the CIFF will be screening La Cocina, starring Rooney Mara, which recently premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, as well as documentaries and narrative shorts. The event aims to provide a valuable showcase for independent filmmakers who struggle to get their work seen.
