Croatia’s bathing waters are the cleanest in Europe, according to a report just published by the European Environment Agency (EEA). Analysing nearly 10,000 samples taken from nearly 1,000 locations in Croatia, both coastal and inland, over the course of 2022, the EEA declared 95.6% of them to be of ‘Excellent’ quality, 2.6% ‘Good’ and only 0.1% to be ‘Poor’.

These figures put Croatia at the top of the 29 European countries surveyed. Austria, Cyprus and Greece also performed well. Heavily reliant on tourism, and cognisant of its international reputation for top-quality bathing, Croatia has strict laws concerning building along its long coastline.
