Fans of Dinamo Zagreb, the team that Croatian football legend Luka Modrić played for before joining Tottenham, have voted to name the club’s training ground after him.

Members who had bought fan tokens for special privileges in supporting the record domestic champions were given four options, each a famous ex-Dinamo player. One name will grace one of the pitches in the Maksimir complex opposite the park of the same name. Nearly 45% went for Modrić, still captaining the national team at the age of 37.

Winner of numerous individual awards, the Zadar-born midfielder led his country to the World Cup final in 2018 and semi-final last December. After both occasions, he and his teammates were fêted with huge celebrations in Zagreb.
