Opatija to host Croatia’s big Eurovision night

From folk singers to controversial alternative rock acts, 18 contestants will be performing for the right to go to the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool

Italy has its Sanremo, Ireland its Lydon appearance while Croatia stages the Dora. Now in its 24th year, this gala event to select Croatia’s entry to the Eurovision Song Contest is traditionally held in the elegant seaside resort of Opatija.

This year’s takes place this Saturday, February 11, at the Marino Cvetković Sports Hall. Broadcast on state TV, 18 acts will be performing for the right to go forward to Eurovision night in Liverpool on May 13. Contestants range from young songstresses to old rockers, with controversial local group Let 3, an alternative band from Rijeka, getting in on the act.

Currently, the folky Harmonija Disonance are favourites with their tune Nevera (Lei, Lei), the video a great advert for Croatia with high production values.
