Dječja kuća, the Children’s House, will be screening one of the most significant film premieres in Croatian celluloid history on Saturday, January 7. With special appearances from the main people involved, the first Croatian-made full-length animation Cvrčak i mravica (given the English title of Cricket & Antoinette) will be making its debut in front of a live audience at 5pm and 7pm.

The setting could not be more appropriate. Part of the Art-kino network, Children’s House in a former factory complex focuses on family-friendly features to nurture a love of film culture in little ones. The initiative grew out of Rijeka’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2020. The idea is also that children can become filmmakers too, with workshops, festivals and presentations. The 75-seater hall is equipped with the latest technological equipment and is also suitable for those with hearing difficulties.

This weekend, it will be showing the Pixar-like Cvrčak i mravica. More than a decade in the making, it's a heart-warming tale of tolerance, love and harmony in the insect world. An English-friendly version is expected soon.

Art-kino, Krešimirova 2, 51 000 Rijeka (+385 51 323 261).
