According to legend, the house was built after three brothers from the Vuković family got married and decided to build a house, but on the site was another property built by a local farmer, Marko, who did not want to sell. The brothers asked for help from the local authorities, but Marko did not want to give up and even threatened to kill the mayor.

When Marko fled in fear of revenge, the brothers started building walls around Marko's house. As they sailed to Venice for building materials, they were caught in a storm and perished in a shipwreck. As they had no heir, Marko returned to live in his old house, surrounded by the walls of the unfinished outer structure.
