Seadogs and backpackers tuck into Split's cheapest local delights at the far end of the Riva. Pan-fried fish is refreshingly priced by the portion rather than per kilo. You'll also find meat dishes such as tongue, tripe and pašticada stew.

We went for breakfast, it was simple, quick and inexpensive. It may not be the best meal you will eat in Split however it will be enjoyable. Plus you can't beat eating breakfast in the sunshine!

Sadly our worst meal in Croatia in terms of food, service and atmosphere.  It was cheap, however not considerably cheap and definitely not worth the slight difference in price.  We arrived during a thunder storm, it wad extremely busy and we were happy to wait for a table under some shelter.  Rather than the friendly hostess we had met at every other restaurant on our trip, here we were met by a shouty woman who seemed thoroughly annoyed that so many people wanted to eat at her restaurant! We were seated on a table with another couple and a waiter came over almost immediately to take our order.  We asked a couple of questions about items on the menu, all were either answered with a shrug or one word answers.  It wasn't a language issue as the same waiter spoke fluent English with other tables.  Our food arrived worryingly fast....within 2 minutes of us ordering.  The food was pretty much cold and clearly had been prepared and left to sit until someone ordered it.  Everything was bland and tasteless.  All the Croatian cuisine we had previously eaten had been full of wonderful flavour which this lacked completely.  The wine tasted cheap and vinegary, the beers were warm.  We tried to get the attention of our waiter but he never returned near our table.  At the end of the meal we tried to pay and were rudely informed 'cash only'.  This wasn't mentioned at the start when we sat down and was written no where on the menu. Thankfully we just had enough to cover the bill....Avoid.  Even if it is pouring with rain, there is a thunderstorm and you need some shelter.
