Bringing the magic of Ante Bijelančić's original Gastro Mare restaurant (located on a sea inlet near Ston on the Pelješac peninsula) to a shopping mall in the centre of Zagreb was a difficult trick to pull off. The essential ingredients remain the same: fresh fish and seafood, Mediterranean herbs, and a genuinely open kitchen that allows you to watch the chefs at work. What makes the Zagreb branch additionally distinctive is the cool, contemporary design (offering views of the Cvijetni Centre's roof garden, this is emphatically not a folksy Dalmatian tavern). The menu changes according to what's fresh, but you can depend on quality ingredients, careful preparation, an excellent wine list – and prices that are above average without being ruinous.
