Fast food restaurant specialising in dishes made from the black Slavonian pig

Editor's note: Lokal is closed with no plans to reopen.

Occupying a prime position on the Tesla thoroughfare at the site formerly held by Duck Fast Bistro, this new fast-food-style restaurant specialises in dishes made from black Slavonian pig. Breakfast options include black pig bacon with scrambled eggs or a meaty Slavonian breakfast. During popular lunchtimes, the high stools are full of local office workers pigging out on burgers, bruschettas and substantial mains. Pork can be an abundant ingredient in a minced-meat burger in Croatia, but it is uncommon to have it labelled not just honestly, but with the pride associated with using this distinct breed. Known locally as fajferica, it's closer in character to boar meat, because of its depth of flavour, compared with standard, intensively farmed pork. The burger (69 kuna) arrives in a beautifully glazed bun, with a variety of homemade sauces, fresh rocket and a generous smattering of cheese. The bacon is delicious and crunchy-brown, but it'd be better served in the burger, instead of on the side next to the passable fries and strips of fried onion. A visit within the first few months of its opening sees pork belly and roasted hock, two of only five mains (from 70kuna/80 kuna), unavailable. But this is the only disappointment, save for the fact that the restaurant is awaiting its customer toilets being fitted and the only current option is to walk round the block to its sister establishment. The new toilets, we're assured, will be in situ for December 2018.
