There are plenty of things to do in Zagreb in summer. Over the years, Croatia's capital has succeeded in shaking off its one-time reputation as a rather staid stopover city. Splash around at Lake Jarun, whose pebbly beach and vibrant café life are almost enough to convince you you’re at the seaside.
Climb through forested foothills or take the bus to Sljeme, the wooded ridge that overlooks the city. Fortify yourself with bean stew or grilled meats at one of the many mountain huts near the summit.
Sashay your way along Tkalčićeva, the vibrant, café-lined street that curves its way uphill from the main square.

Take in an open-air movie at the Summer Cinema in the Upper Town – come early to grab a seat or stretch your blanket out on the grass.
Treat yourself to an ice cream at one of Zagreb’s top spots for scoops: Millennium Café on Bogovićeva, Chocolat 041 on Masarykova, or Vincek on Ilica.
Explore the hidden backyards of the Upper Town and enjoy a glass or two of Croatian wine at the Courtyards Festival in July.
Check out what’s going on at Gourmingle, the summer-long festival of Croatian cuisine that takes place among the lawns and shrubs of Strossmayerov trg.
Take a trip to the rustic village of Čigoć, home to a spectacularly large stork population who migrate southwards in the last week of August.
