With its smart aquamarine frontage and chic interior of gold patterned wallpaper, swag curtains, red-brick walls and (of course) rows of wine bottles, Hugo's is a welcome addition to an area that already has more than its fair share of wine bars. But then, this is the business end of town, with more than its fair share of suits to do the wine-drinking. Hugo's list is expansive but not expensive, with a good showing of wines from around the world, and the food is no afterthought either. Plum-stuffed pork tenderloin, seared scallops with wilted greens and curry butter, and chicory, rocquefort and candied pecan salad were some of the stand-out dishes from our last meal here. The staff are friendly and efficient, and (on a warm summer's evening) the small table for two in the window is a great place to enjoy a glass or three of crisp rosé.
