The popularity of US TV show ‘Man Vs Food’ has led many eateries on these shores to introduce their own eating challenges. Here are just four of the best food challenges in Glasgow – have you got the bottle?

Monster Burger Challenge at Ad Lib

Seeing as Glasgow is so well known for its burger joints, we had to start with a burger challenge. Comprising 3lbs of Aberdeen Angus beef, three beef tomatoes, two onions and a whopping 1lb of cheese all encased in a specially-made bun, the Monster Burger Challenge isn’t one for the faint (or weak) of heart. You’ve got two hours to consume this colossus and in that time you’re not allowed to leave the table. Succeed and the £35 burger is on the house, plus you'll get a free t-shirt (we're guessing XXL after that feed). Fail and you have to pay.

Breakfast Challenge at Brooklyn Cafe

Who doesn’t love a good fry-up? Well, this one might be a bit much even for the full breakfast’s biggest fans. Bacon, pancakes, square sausage, haggis, hash browns, beans and rounds of toast make up this beast of a brekkie, along with unlimited orange juice or tea to wash it all down. The challenge comes with a variable time limit – it’s a minimum of 30 minutes, but there's an extra minute added on for every failure (the clock's reset as soon as it's defeated). It's almost like the cash pot on ‘Pointless’, with fewer tenners and more toast. (It's probably also worth pointing out that Brooklyn Cafe also boasts a hot wings challenge and a massive burger challenge, but - and we can't stress this enough - you should not try them all in one day.)

Hot Wing Challenge at Buddy’s BBQ

If you prefer a spicier challenge, Buddy’s BBQ might just have one for you. Brave challengers are asked to consume six pepper spray chicken wings in just five minutes. But that’s not all – you then have to sit for an additional five minutes with no drinks or napkins. Ouch! If you make it through, your wings are free and you’ll get a complimentary milkshake to cool you down.

The Burrito Challenge at Taco Mazama

The burrito challenge was immense. Andrew came so close to conquering. #burrito #tacomazama

One for Tex-Mex fans - try your hand at devouring a supersized triple burrito from Taco Mazama. Finish it in ten minutes and the £14.99 burrito is on the house (you’ll also get your photo on the wall). The mini-chain also runs a head-to-head eat-off at the end of the year for the fastest eaters at each location - with the victor offered a year’s free burritos.
