The National Museum of Ethnology has a vast collection of items from rural Portugal and the former colonies that are regularly rotated and displayed in well-researched temporary exhibitions. A permanent show on rural life comprising some 3,000 pieces may be visited (with a guided tour, 2.30pm Tue, 10.30am & 2.30pm Wed-Fri). Staff are very helpful and the shop has books in English.
