It has the style of an English pub, a hall with comfy sofas where people smoke and eat until late. The menu is not vast but it has what is required for an after-hours supper: excellent croquettes to slather with mustard, well-made “peixinhos da horta” fried vegetables, delicious shrimp crepes au gratin and, finally, the star performer: the Café do Paço sirloin steak with a cream-based gravy, fries and “esparregado” mashed spinach. An old-fashioned place with old-fashioned service.
Time Out tips:
– Whether you're a regular or a newbie, you will be greeted with a “hello, how do you do?”.
– Fridays and Saturdays evenings there's a crowd. So, you know the drill – pick up the phone and dial.
– Finish your meal on a high note with Caldas styles “trouxas de ovos” egg sweets.
