To start off, the best fried fish in the Greater Lisbon area is served in this small Algés place - so says Time Out food critic Alfredo Lacerda, who awarded Sé da Guarda four stars in an April 2017 review. Mr. José Esteves, who has been working here for 30 years, guarantees that the horse mackerel, the dentex fish and the hake with the tail in its mouth come fresh every day, to go with tomato rice, rice and beans or "açorda" bread broth. Mr. José and Ms. Rosa, who is in charge of the kitchen, open their establishment at 6am for breakfast, and stay open all day long until 10pm.
