For several years now, Varanda do Ritz has been in the running for a Michelin star. However, some might say that accolade is unlikely because they mostly serve buffet food. Never mind the stars: a meal at the Varanda do Ritz is a true French luxury, led by chef Pascal Meynard, experienced in hotel cuisine (he already worked in several Michelin-worthy locations). You can try his work in generous breakfasts (€37.50), in lunch buffets with salads, cheeses and fine hot dishes (€56) or in à la carte dinners, where main courses include refined john dory fillets with asparagus and marsh samphire.
Time Out tips:
– A couple of figures: the kitchen area is 180 sq/m, comprising ten stoves.
– The chef is passionate about all sea produce.
– To save some money, go to the hotel bar, where the food is also of five-star quality.
