We are well aware that these aren't the easiest souvenirs to cram into your suitcase on packing to go home, but this tableware shop really is worth a visit. The pieces here will brighten up any home: they come in all imaginable colours, plain or patterned, in classic or modern designs, and are sold by the kilo.

The. Best. Shop. Ever. Ok so you could argue that depends what you’re looking for but I don’t care – this place is wonderful!

Selling ceramics of every colour and design imaginable including lots of authentic Portuguese prints – hello sardine plates! – you pay for most of the stock in here by the kilo and it's truly exceptional for what you get.

There are some things that are individually priced and these are such insanely good value, you may need to do what I did and have a little weep in the corner as you remember you only brought hand luggage and therefore have no way of getting the 6 plates, 4 bowls, 8 mugs, 2 serving platters, 15 mini sardines and a flowerpot home. Never mind – it means you’ll have to come back again! Hurrah! And check in a suitcase! Hurrah! And fill it with bubble wrap! Hurrah! And relish in the smugness of having amazing, authentic, Lisboan ceramic tableware at a fraction of the price of similar things in old overpriced London town! Hurrah!

Tucked off a side street moments from the equally brilliant A Vida Portuguesa, this shop is cool, calm, understated and, along with Manteigaria and the Mercado de Ribeiro, one of my favourite places in Lisbon and a total must visit.
