Dorothea Tanning - Night Shadows

Time Out says

Think Picasso’s topsy-turvy nudes mixed with the feminine clout of Georgia O’Keefe. Dorothea Tanning was an American artist who lived to the grand old age of 101, and who kept painting well into her later years. From studies of the body to her “forays into botany”, even her still lives of flowers transcend chintzy granny territory. Her colours are bold and her compositions brazen and unexpected: it’s no wonder she caught the eye of Surrealist bad boy Max Ernst. This exhibition focuses on costume and set designs she made for the New York City ballet in the 1940s through to 1961, showing a quirky, whimsical take on Georges Balanchine's productions.
