Time Out says

3 out of 5 stars

An empty lipstick box is the central point of intrigue in this show comprising four elegant, wall-based sculptural assemblages by young Londoner Gabriele Beveridge. Resting on top of a pastel-coloured frame that contains a magazine photograph of the Grand Canyon, the unassuming package once held a Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick in the shade 'Gabrielle 19'.

This much-coveted red evokes a host of references, from Hepburn and Monroe to Coco herself, and most fittingly is the lip colour now ubiquitous in vintage styling. Given its name, perhaps it was a gift to the artist. Making such wistful parallels is typical of Beveridge's approach.

All of the objects chosen are either old yet not quite out of fashion or are slipping into obsolescence. Another piece, 'My First Nikon' (2012), sees the artist display said camera in a similar pastel-hued frame, on top of which are placed some thin Vogue cigarettes. Next to this, a photogram of an unidentifiable cube-shaped blur rests on a shelf-like wedge of eucalyptus bark.

As if a manifestation of some hard-to-reach memory this work suggests a narrative belonging to a time past, evocative of a teenage recollection. Beveridge's displays of mass-produced items in highly idiosyncratic arrangements draw collective associations into direct conversation with personal effects, like sculptural freeze-frames of hazy thoughts.
