Londoners, show us your animal side!
To celebrate ZSL London Zoo's upcoming Animal Photography Prize exhibition, we're putting out the call for your photos of London animals. Whether you've got a cute pet you can't help but Instagram, or you're a pro at capturing wild urban creatures, we want to see London's animals through your lens. We'll feature the best submissions in our upcoming Time Out Takeover issue, which means your cat could be more famous than you ever imagined. Our three favourite photos will win a family pass to see the photography exhibition and a copy of the book, while our grand prize winner gets a powerful Canon 60D camera worth £600, and a place on one of London Zoo's photography workshops. Not bad, eh?
Breathtaking images depicting the magic of the animal kingdom will be on display in a stunning new exhibition at ZSL London Zoo from Friday 20 September.
The annual competition run by the Zoological Society of London was launched in 2012 in a bid to inspire amateur and professional photographers to get out and capture the wonders of the natural world - see the weird, wonderful and breathtakingly beautiful winning photographs at the outdoor exhibit.
It's all about street culture at this Essex Road bar - one of three London venues from the Barrio group. The vibe is influenced by urban art and music from some of the world's big cities - London, Lisbon, Miami, Mexico and elsewhere. Cocktails play a lead role here, not least during the generous happy hours. Options range from the rumshackle (Santa Teresa rum with orange curacao, orgeat, pineapple and lime) to the ram berry jam (homemade raspberry jam liqueur with Stoli vodka, lemon and cava) and the pinata paloma - a mix of tequila, passion fruit, fresh lime, guava and Ting served in a porcelain pinata. There's an international flavour to the bar food, with wasabi peas, chilli rice crackers and platters of meats and cheeses alongside mixed olives, chips with dips, houmous with pitta and ciabatta with olives and chorizo. The venue's centrepiece - a '70s caravan with one side lopped off - provides the plum seats.
Venue says: “The first (and some say best) of the Barrio familia Barrio Angel has built a reputation for all things tequila and rum, agave and cane.”
