In real life, Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller, who also directs) is a workaday drone, cowed by the threat of redundancy and too timid to ask out his pretty co-worker (Kristen Wiig). In his daydreams, whether climbing a massive glacier or saving a cat from an exploding building, no challenge is too big. When a problem at work leads to Walter’s ultimate real-world test, fantasy-Walter springs into action, embarking on a global adventure that exceeds even his wildest dreams. Sean Penn and Shirley MacLaine also star in the remake of this 1947 classic, itself based on the much-anthologised 1939 James Thurber short story.
