The Orchestra of the University College Opera under Charles Peebles performs Bizet's 'Carmen Suites', its familiar strains countered by the collage of images that visual artist Susanne Dietz curated from various versions of Carmen'. Then, director Kitte Wagner of the Nørrebro Teater (Copenhagen) who created '2200 Carmen', featuring rap artist Islam B, discusses her experience in adapting 'Carmen' for a modern Danish audience. Jonathan Haswell who captured the Zambello production, staged at the Royal Opera House for screen, joins her to share his approach in framing and filming opera. Jean Andrews, an expert on the opera's many incarnations adds her perspectives to the transformations and translations. The discussion will be moderated by Mi Zhou, the producer and convenor of these events. (Part of the carmen/karmen festival at University College London.)
