Kenny Wheeler Quintet/Stan Sulzmann/Gwilym Simcock

In spite of iconic Brit jazz trumpeter Wheeler now being 82, he still sounds wonderful. His pristine tone retains that special melancholic glow and his solo flights are still fleet-fingered and engaging. Yet it's always been his capabilities as a composer that's made him a huge influence on his contemporaries and the current generation of young players. The fine band features both sax star Sulzmann, Mercury-nominated pianist Simcock and excellent drummer Martin France. First of two nights.
