When I was asked to book our christmas party, most restaurants said no, but not the case with Fortnum, arranging our Christmas lunch was a joy (excellent service) and as for the food, and waiters & waitress just excellent! Everyone was quite blown away, highly recommended!

This restaurant is almost folksy for Fortnum and Mason, with its unvarnished tables and plain wooden floor. The sign at the top of this page denoting low-priced is a bit misleading though. I suspect that you could get away with £25 per person if you were to choose the absolute cheapest starter and main course, but you couldn't have a dessert or wine and certainly not tea. I think I saw tea that was about £8 and while I have no doubt that it is lovely tea and will come in a pretty teapot, it is certainly not economical.

However, the restaurant is attractive with a view out over Jermyn Street through the window and over the sweet displays when you look in towards the shop. Everything is very high quality, as you would expect; nice napkins, good cutlery and crockery and the service is excellent.

The food is lovely too, the ingredients are top notch and beautifully prepared and presented. The beef was perfectly cooked and the gravy was rich and indulgent. So, although this is not somewhere to go if you are on a tight budget, it does do a great lunch and I recommend it if you feel like a treat.

The Picadilly Afternoon Tea is a very good option to enjoy afternoon tea central London whether you go shopping or attend an exhibition. We just walked in, service was good, less noisy than expected and scone delicious. The price is 25£pp and 34£pp if you decide to top up your scones with bubbles. A good place to crash in last minute without reservation. Expect to queue on a busy Saturday.
