Saporitalia’s dining room is dominated by a handsome clay oven, the sight of which is enough to get taste buds tingling. Sure enough, our pizza was first-rate: an enormous wagon-wheel of a thing with a wafer-thin base generously topped with san daniele ham. It’s wise to opt for the pizza here, as you get more for your money; our other dishes were a bit hit-and-miss.
Ravioli was perfectly al dente and had plenty of bite and a pleasantly light sauce, but it could have been mistaken for an appetiser. And a heavy hand had been at the mozzarella in our baked gnocchi, leaving the dish dense and stodgy. Decor is self-consciously rustic, with terracotta tiling and a charmingly cheesy photo mural of an Italian farmhouse on the back wall. As much of the cooking takes place in the dining room, the space can become noisy and stuffy when busy.

Food is below average. The pizza is good but nothing extraordinary (go to Sartori in Leicester sq. instead). I have mixed feelings towards the service. Our waiter was lovely and the service was very fast. However the owner/manager tricked me in a way that I personally found repulsive. I went to Saporitalia with some friends to celebrate my birthday with pizza since I am Italian and asked the waiter if I could serve a cake I brought. He said yes and put my cake in the fridge. Everything went smoothly until at the end of the evening when I asked the bill I found out that they had charged me 8 pounds more for "open food". They can do whatever they want but they should have told me when I first asked them.
I live in the area and despite being a bit saturated with Italian restaurants (especially on Kensington Park Road), I can always count on Saporitalia to produce consistently fresh, tasty, authentic food that I keep coming back to (at least once a month!). Their pizza seems to get most of the attention, but I always go for the specials menu as the seasonal dishes never disappoint. Those that are finished in the wood burning oven are a particular favourite - the Roselle starter is amazing!
I think this place should be on everybodies pizza radar as their pizzas are enormous, thin and very tasty, cooked to perfection too! The service is unhurried and layed back, not in your face so to speak! great lunch or evening break fill up whilst your in the portobello road shopping for nick nacks or whatever.
We dined at this restaurant last night (12th October) and what a restaurant the food was lovely. It was really nice seeing the clay oven and the starter buffet laid out as you come in. We knew we were in for a great meal. Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Can't wait to go again!! Real Italian restaurant!!!

My brother and I had a meal there some weeks back and it was pretty busy, the starter alone was great! I would go there just for that. I will be back again. The ninja marketing doesn't work! Saporitalia is a good spot!
Had a lovely lunch there. Nice atmosphere, superb food. We were sandwiched between two families of Italians (I think this says it all really!). Good service and a very good price. Thoroughly recommend and would also recommend ignoring the Pizza East comments (blatent and rude ninja marketing).
One of the best pizzas I've had...really thin and flavorful. Usually take it away, because we live in the building across the road. Always very pleasant service!
Meals were delivered to our table 2 at a time with long periods in-between. The pasta on one of the meals was un-cooked and raw in places. They reheated it in a microwave and re-presented it with some of the topping missing. 2 of the pizza's were burnt Not a recommended dining experience
I was so happy to try this pizzeria... but what a bad experience. It started with the wine - very disappointing - so acid that we did not drink more than a quarter of the bottle. We then had pizza - pizza dough was alright, but toppings in general (tomato sauce, mozzarella, olive oil) were really tasteless - with too much salt. Forget about Saporitalia and walk three minutes more to Pizza East - better atmosphere, better wine and especially BETTER FOOD.
