Upon arrival at Sedap, we were warmly greeted in Penang-Hokkien dialect by the owner Mary Khoo, who moved here from Notting Hill in 2009. Her family members continue to run the restaurant: from the stove all the way to front-of-house. Black furniture and olive-green walls add a sense of style to proceedings, as do neat touches such as a glass display cabinet showcasing antique tea sets.
We kicked off with a seafood char mee (stir-fried yellow noodles), which was packed with deep-fried shallots and minced garlic giving long-lasting flavour. Sedap is known for its Nonya cooking – a fusion of Malay and Chinese cuisines – and the typical hot and sour flavours were exemplified by a curry tumis, which arrived in a sturdy copper bowl. Inside, we found a tasty, soft and fleshy sea bream accompanied by okra. To finish, the own-made Nonya kueh (brightly coloured cakes) are difficult to resist. Accompanying the kueh with a glass of warm, sweet teh tarik (‘pulled tea’) would doubtless bring back happy memories to Malaysian expats. The good-value lunch menus are also worthy of inspection.

Excellent food, great char kwey teow, quick and fast service, and very pleasant. The curries, hainanese chicken and laksa are brilliant, having lived in hk and singapore i can really say its food like at home. I have been eating here for a few years and everyone i have introduced to it have become regulars. Highly recommend it
Disappointing. Food was nothing like the real deal, quite tasteless. Rice was soggy and too oily (for the Hainanese Chicken Rice). Look elsewhere for Malaysian/Asian food.
This "Sedap" is a big, big disappointment. Their food was very good when they were in Notting Hill Gate some years ago, then know as "Nonya" but this SEDAP is really disgustingly disappointing with tasteless so called Penang (Malaysian) food. Complete waste of time (effort & money) going to them !!!!!!!
Went for lunch today. Fast and attentive service. Portions were ok. Flavours were excellent. Priced a little high but still reasonable value.
Have been going here for a few years, normally for the set choice at lunch. Have to say I think portions not the most generous on that particular deal but a pleasant place.
I love this restaurant. The staff are very friendly. Food arrives very quickly and is very tasteful. The nonya-kui are delicious. Definitely the best Chinese - Malaysian restaurant in London.

I really like this place, so I'm puzzled by the negative reviews from other users. The food is good, I try and go for something different whenever I go there and I'm yet to be disappointed. The staff are very friendly and the prices are very reasonable for the area (most restaurants around here charge a fortune). Knocks the socks off of the thai place next door.
