This Islington spot has been going for a few years now, settling into its Essex Road well before the relatively recent penchant for Peruvian restaurants hit town. Decor is simple – polished dark-wood tables, long brown banquette, white walls adorned with colour photos – and the drinks list includes Peruvian beer, wines and Inca Kola.
The food menu includes ceviche, yuquita rellenas (deep-fried cassava balls filled with cheese on huancaina sauce), carapulcra (sundried potato stew with roasted peanuts, panco chilli paste, pork and chicken) and Andean quinoa served 'risotto-style' with aji amarillo pepper, cream, fried halloumi and fresh asparagus. Sharing platters and Peruvian bento boxes also feature.

Little great restaurants, the food is very authentic and delicious, also the portions are big enough for you to enjoy even desserts!! amazing little gem hidden somewhere in Islington, recommended by a real Peruvian!!
I think this was one of the first Peruvian restaurants to really kickstart the trend in London and it remains a really good little place. It's one of my go-to places when visiting this part of town - we always end up having good food and an even better time.
We were debating on where to take our clients, who incidentally are pretty cool and fun so decided on Tierra Peru based on the recommendation of our PA.
The place is a tiny, trendy restaurant but we were able to secure a table for eight, which was amazing. We started off with pisco sours all around, and let me tell you, this was one of the best ones i've had in a LONG time. We then ordered some ceviches, which were fresh, light and super tasty.
We also ordered the quinoa salad, anticucho, and arroz con mariscos. It was all super delicious and I was very happy with all my food (especialy since I was on my second pisco).
For dessert I had the picarones, simply yummy!!!. All in all, a great find and cant wait to go back.
Awesome flavors, authentic food and drinks, the only Peruvian restaurant in London that serves the real deal!
I am half Peruvian, half French, as a Child my Mother always prepare delicious tasty Peruvian dishes at home. I must says that Tierra Peru not only exceeded my expectations but I was very impressed with the variety, quality and presentation of dishes, from the Menu drinks, they have amazing cocktails, the starters are superb, there are lots of choices such as tamalitos, causa, ox heart anticuchos (My favourite) and the mains, just amazing, proper main portion size, i recommend the tasting platters, a very good way of introduce yourself to this wonderful flavors.
Most authentic Peruvian restaurant in town!! I am a Peruvian who recommend this place for Peruvians and non Peruvians, there is a variety of dishes, you will be happy to taste the authentic flavors of my lovely Peru, I have been to many Peruvian restaurants, but so far this one is my favorite. Try the all you can eat buffet on Sundays, just amazing!
We all know Peruvian cuisine is hugely trendy at the moment, and this little gem of a place on Essex Road is the first time I've tried what is becoming renowned as the best of Latin American food. There's a Spanish tapas feel initially but both the differences and similarities become obvious as we indulge in as much Inca fare as we can. Early evening, the place was empty but filled up comfortably as the evening wore on. A haven for local Foodies I would imagine, as well as an eatery worth travelling across London to visit. With simplistic Incan wall art and cosy seating, the staff made us feel welcome and at ease. Choosing from the menu proved inconclusive as we all wanted to try everything, so in the end we went for two of the special platters, which was plenty for five people, deceivingly so, as it seemed so little. The most traditional and possibly best known dish from Peru, is of course, the ceviche. These are usually fish and vegetables 'cooked' in citric juices and are served cold. A lot of pulses and vegetables mixed in gave texture and flavour. My favourite meat dish was the chicaronnes de cerdo - deep-fried pork with cassava and chimmichurri sauce. Not hot at all - until the aftertaste kicked in! Some similarities to my beloved Spanish food were the deep-fried cassava and cheese balls, reminiscent of croquettas, and much grilled seafood. Alongside this, the unfamiliar plantain, Peruvian corn, and palm hearts. The fusion of hearty traditional stews with modern unique dishes gives a whole wealth of new dishes which I will be more than happy to return to explore. Desserts were most unusual. Chilli ice-cream? What a paradox. But it worked. It worked well. The chocolate mousse with pisco, Peru's traditional spirit, was delicious, and the rococo pepper ice cream intensified all the dessert flavours. We were left feeling totally satisfied, as you do when eating tiny amounts of lots of different plates. And also indulged. When I go back I know what I want more of ...defo!
We had booked a table for 4 at Tierra Peru for 9pm via an email booking site. We arrived at the restaurant at 9:07 and were told that our table had been let go because it was restaurant policy that tables are released if customers had not arrived within 10 minutes of the booking time. I showed our host my iPhone on which the time was 9:08; he looked and said, simply, "yes". He then said that we should wait and that he would find us a table soon. The restaurant is small and looking at the 3 or 4 tables that could accommodate 4 people, none of the occupants had just started their meals. This led me to believe that the restaurant had purposefully over-booked in the hope that they would be able to work round this. The fact that they hadn't rang me when we were late (they had my number) strengthens my belief. We were given a table around 9:35. After ordering, we queried where the food was around 10:00 and were told that it would be here "very soon". Another query around 10:10 resulted in the response that it would be here "very soon". After a final query at 10:20 we were told "4 minutes" to which we replied that this was unacceptable and that we had decided to leave and would not be paying for the nibbles and drinks we had consumed. They just looked guilty and apologised, and we left. Moral of the story: be prepared to leave without paying and if a restaurant exceeds the limits of acceptability then do so. I would be very wary of expecting good service at this place. We won't be returning (which is a shame as we would like to try the food).
There is no doubt that to have the best Peruvian food experience you have to travel to Peru. I've had the opportunity to dine at top restaurants in Lima and Cusco, nevertheless, I have to say that this restaurant is probably hands down the closest and best experience I've had to Peruvian cuisine in Europe. It is definitely a must! Service is great, the waiters very attentive and knowledgeable in regards to suggestions of the menu, and the Pisco sour is excellent. I am Peruvian by the way, try the all you can eat buffet at weekends, it is amazing!
I had not so much knowledge of Peruvian food, just stopped by with some friends on a night out. Simply amazing!!! The staff and service were exceptional. Everything was delivered with a smile and at a timely manner, really great professional service, for an small place. Food wise ,the important stuff, amazing! We tried a variety of dishes, and every one exceeded expectations. Can't vouch for the meat dishes, being a vegetarian, or even remember what I ate - but everything was so lovingly and delicately flavoured it was an absolute joy. Finishing off with some simply amazing doughnuts sealed the deal for me. The restaurant itself was well decorated, clean, and a lovely atmosphere. I'm no light eater, I felt that the portions were very reasonable. What a nice treat to happen upon somewhere like Tierra Peru. Would heartily recommend for a truly Peruvian wonderful experience.
Excellent food and drinks! definitely some great addition to the London scene, places like this one makes London one of the greatest cities on earth. Recommended 100%,
First experience of this type of food. Went with friends and shared lots of different dishes. Food was really fresh and so tasty. Cocktails were also really good. The brunch buffet is amazing, £21 for the amount and quality it is definitely great value for money. Service really good as well. Would definitely come back for more delicious food.
Amazing flavors of Peru, I have been several times, their new menu is to die for, book in advance, this place is always full. Highly recommended.
Excellent restaurant to try great Peruvian food, this is a destination restaurant, quite central but a bit hidden, Tierra Peru will exceed your expectations. I have been to other Peruvian restaurants in London, but this is the place to try authentic real flavous. I highly recommend the all you can eat buffet for lunch at weekends, a real treat!!! I will be back soon for more!!!
Authentic flavours of Peru, great service and lovely display of colourful culture, nice addition to the London restaurant scene.
Loved it! We booked a table at 10pm and the place was still packed and bustling. We had one of the many pisco-based cocktail and couldn't wait to get another one, superb! Food is outstanding. We tried different things but my favourite has to be the Lomo Saltado. A bit hidden in Essex road, but worth trying to find it. Will visit again
Definitely one of the best Peruvian restaurants we have been to. The food is so delicious and well presented, this place deserves a Michelin Star!!! the service was a bit amateur but friendly, on the night of our visit there as live music (traditional Inca an pipes) we had an amazing evening, if you are looking for something dfferent, then you must try this hidden gem. Very busy, book your table in advance.
I recommend the duck and the sea food dishes(my favourites!)
Excellent food and service, the most authentic place to eat Peruvian food in London, you will not be disappointed We also tried the buffet on Sunday, it was amazing, worth the visit.
Fantastic place for food lovers and adventurous eaters, definitely a great addition to the London foody escene.
Good selection of different regions of Peru, I have travelled to South America, I am very fond of Peruvian cuisine, this restaurant ticks all the boxes.
Execcelnt food, good service a great combination of quality and awesome flavours, highly recommended.
Fantastic i took my friend here for his 50th birthday the service and food was fantastic the cocktails the best i have ever had they also let us bring a birthday cake in the staff all sung happy birthday my elderly mother and her friend came the staff were so nice to them the service was A1 i would recommend this restaurant to anyone 10/10
Great dishes, excellent service, the portions were big enough to leave you with a big smile, being a Peruvian who loves his food, I definitely recommend this great place for food lovers!!! My recommendations are: Cebiche, Anticuchos,Causas, Picante de Mariscos and Carapulcra!! lovely!
Great venue, lovely food, real Peruvian. My wife says so,( she is from Cuzco) no Guinea pig on site...real shame.
Busy restaurant but it has a good vibe, there was a a guy playing the guitar and the drums, the music seeemed to be Peruvian, the food and the service was excellent, I will be back again, lovely evening @ Tierra Peru
I defo recommend this restaurant, the portions sizes are big, but i was overall impressed by the quality of the food and the variety and nevertheless with the authenticity, because I am half Peruvian and I know a lot about this cuisine, The service was friendly and the atmosphere buzzing, it is one of my top restaurants in London. Advise: Book a table beforehand!
As an Italian, my mind was only in Italian food, great pastas and pizzas, I was always difficult for food but after my friend took me to Tierra Peru, I couldn't believe the amzaing food and flavours, great party and beautiful evening, the restaurant was crowded but even that the food arrived on time, the service is very efficient (especially from the Italo-peruvian waiter, but i am amzaed about how great Peruvian cuisine is. I am writing this thinking about ceviche and pisco sour, the best in town!!!
Great food and service, Highly recommended, I was impressed by the decor and authentic flavours. Recommended by a Peruvian.
Excellent service and food, we really enjoyed our dining experience here, fascinated with Peruvian food not yet well known for Londoners but expect dishes exciting new flavours, really tasty , great quality and presentation, well done Tierra Peru!
This little restaurant is amazing, great food, great athmosphere and the food is well presented, the portions are quite big, but overall delicious, I brought my Peruvian girlfriend as a birthday surprise, she said this restaurant offers real Peruvian food that you will try in restaurants in Lima, she also mentioned it remionded her of her mama's cooking, great restaurant, Islington needed a place like this, highly recommended!
First time we had Peruvian food and it was very enjoyable. Pisco cocktails were very good. Friendly service. The improvement could be better explanation about the dishes (yes I appreciate English is not the waiting staff's first language), dishes that are not vegetarian shouldn't be marked with a V, and lighting perhaps a little less bright. I look forward to eating here again.
As a Peruvian i am fascinated with my food, as i mentioned in other reviews, this restaurant has it all, from the quality of food to the presentation, the athmosphere is great but overall i stressed out...the quality!, I have visited this restaurant with some business people from the city, they were all amused by the flavours of the cuisine, thanks guys for the great dining experience!! I recommend this place to people who like to dine truly amazing flavours!!
I must say i am in love with Peruvian food..I have been to Peru so many times for business, it was about time a restaurant like Tierra Peru had opened their doors for Londoners, we have truly deserved quality food and great value for money, i highly recommended this little restaurant, 10/10!!
The food at this restaurant is simply amazing, we had a party celebration at this restaurant and we must say we never had this type of food and it was just simply amazing, the staff were so corteous and explained in detail all dishes, for a minute we though we were actually in Peru!! we will recommend this restaurant to people wo love great food and great dining experiences, i never though Peruvian food was amazing! we will come back again and again, mind you book a table, they seem to be very busy
I agree with the great comments about this place, the food, the service, the athmosphere, they are all great, i must say i disagree with the two previous unhappy Londoner or Not available, first i must say that if you are late for your booking in a restaurant the most decent thing is to call?... i know this guys at Tierra Peru are always busy (I am a local) and i am guessing they cannot afford just to book a table for people who are late or don't show up. I celebrated my birthday too at this reaturant and i was happy to pay for the service charge as is a logical thing to do, imagine going to a restaurant and bringing your own food?.. how on earth you expect businesses to succeed?.. a little bit of common sense won't kill. On the other hand I am a peruvian myself, Peruvian food has a lot of influence from europe, asia, etc, that's why in peru we have arroz con mariscos (paella in spain), arroz chaufa (sea food and fried rice in china) etc etc, people, before you judge or critisize please culturize yourselves a bit more!!, anyway i wish these guys (tierra Peru) a lot of success, they are doing a great job, i am glad we finally have a proper southamerican restaurant in Islington and luckily enough for me, at my doorstep!...highly recommended!!! (By a Peruvian!)
My first time eating Peruvian food, so maybe my experience is nothing to go by, but I thought the food was fantastic!. Lots of flavours and spices, the lamb dish was delicious and the pumpkin doughnuts ummm who’d of thought yummy. The staff where friendly and courteous I would definitely go back with friends.
I have been to this restaurant several times with different group of friends, i must say the food is gorgeous, the prsentation is amazing but the thing that really amazed me the most is the prices, they are quite cheap for the good quality of the dishes, this restaurant is really awesome, in every sense...plus, the service...very friendly and spot on!...just a little advise for them, practice a bit more of english as many of us dont speakl spanish..(i would love to though!)..nevermind, this place is great!!!
This restaurant it is amazing, as you can feel Peruvian enviroment, not only in the food, as well the friendly service, etc. I think this is the closest autenthic peruvian food, and also music is great. Great value for money, hope this quality continues :)
Worst service I have ever experienced in London. We had booked a table for 4 people for my brother's birthday. Arriving almost 15 minutes late, the waiter told us they had given our table away as we were late and they had tried to call us, which was not true. the metre even showed us his phone to say that according to his watch we were 17 minutes late. We waited at the bar -did not even offer us some drinks to compensate-The food was OK -some dishes really good, some just boiled potato with mustard, in the end when they brought us the bill we noticed they had charged us for 4 extra cocktails!!! When we complained about that 3 different waiters came to tell us that we were wrong -which we were not- and even the metr only to agree that we were correct after all. Not only that but they charged us 10 pounds extra because we had brought our own birthday cake . all and all the worst dining experience I ever had in London!
I disagree with previous reviews. I absolutely did not enjoy the food. I thought it was either tasteless or simply not good. I was warned when I saw mentions to Chinese or Afro infusions to the food, instead of focusing exclusively on Peruvian. Whenever a restaurant starts offering multiple cuisines I get concerned. The deep fried squids had a lot of very poor batter and it looked like they were not freshly fried. The arroz con marisco was a stodgy portion of rice with no winning flavours. The only dish I enjoyed was the one called carapulcra, made of potatoes, paprika, chicken served with steamed rice. Service is very friendly but poor, as they seems confused, mix orders up. I can spend a lot of money for food but, considered the quality of what I had at Tierra Peru, I think it is actually very expensive for what they serve
I would deffinately recommend Tierra Perù, the food is delicious and the combination of flavours are amazing! The whole restaurant has a great vibe to it, you immediately feel welcome once you've walked through the door. By the end of the evening my appetite had been fully satisfied. The prices are great for the quality and service you receive!! I look forward to my next visit to Tierra Peru; which will be very soon!!
Prior to Tierra Peru, my only foray into South American cuisine had been countless Brazillian churrascarias. While I absolutely love the seemingly endless supply of barbequed carne, it is by no means the sum total of South American cuisine. Tierra Peru has shown me a whole new experience. Multiple culinary influences, textures and flavours combine, along with some more obvious South American tones, to produce a taste that is quite unique. I was at first surprised by the amount of fresh seafood on the menu, given my limited experience in churrascarias. Upon further thought, this should have come as no surprise, given that Peru's coast is the Pacific Ocean. The decor at Tierra Peru is chic and the seating arrangement allows for both an intimate date or a work function. I'm going back again tonight.
