Michael Longhurst hasn’t even technically left the Donmar Warehouse yet, but here he is flexing his newfound directorial freedom at Hampstead Theatre. And it’s a likely doozy: ‘Between Riverside and Crazy’ is the UK premiere for US playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis’s Pulitzer Prize-winning tragedy about an eccentric retired police officer living in a rent-controlled Manhattan apartment with a series of assorted low lives. Fresh off the back of his super King Lear for the Almeida, Danny Sapani takes on the lead role of Walter ‘Pops’ Washington.
