Tom Littler’s final season in charge of Jermyn Street kicks off with him directing this 1939 comic obscurity from Dorothy L Sayers – best known as the creator of popular literary detectives Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. It concerns Lydia, a stage actress who has run off with Godfrey, a writer of romantic fiction. But their affair has degenerated into squabbling, and Lydia comes to regret her retirement from the stage when she hears of a mysterious female playwright making a name for herself. The play’s original run was truncated by the war, making this its first full production.
