Interactive Operations Room
By permission of HMS Belfast, a branch of the Imperial War Museum
A new addition to the permanent displays, this interactive exhibition shows how HMS Belfast could once be controlled from the Operations Room. There's a simulated radar which plots the position of other ships, based on the Pony Express exercise of 1961 which involved 60 warships, including HMS Belfast, and 20,000 naval personnel. Visitors can take part in a game to control the fleet and be involved in a mission to salvage parts of a plane downed at sea. Archival films and photographs are also on display.
