Despite its name, London City Island is actually a hidden peninsula sticking out into the River Lee accessible over a snazzy red bridge that stretches over the water from Canning Town. Once a desolate space it’s now home to English National Ballet’s headquarters, a verdant ecology park, and for one weekend only, The Islander Festival: an all-day summer fete showing off all the culture packed onto this little piece of land with live music, food and drink, and entertainment. Look out for DJ sets, art exhibitions, alfresco fitness classes, cocktail-making workshops, an Open House at English National Ballet and an international street food market.
