It’s all kicking off in Derry this weekend. In a massively turbo-charged version of the Radio 1 Roadshow – which, as older readers might remember, featured assorted bell-bottomed, oleaginous sex pests taking their Smashie and Nicey shtick to the provinces – this event sees the likes of Labrinth, Biffy Clyro and the ubiquitous Mr Rascal laying waste to a large chunk of urban Northern Ireland. But in a nice way.
The whole thrilling business is presided over by Greg James and Alice Levine who, a mere six months after arriving at wonderful Radio 1, has been chucked in at the deep end. A good start to what, with Glastonbury back on the agenda, should be a decent summer of live music on the Beeb.
