Walt Disney World remains closed, but there’s still a way to get your Disney fix while you wait for the theme parks to reopen. Disney Springs—the outdoor shopping and entertainment destination that’s free to roam—is welcoming guests back starting this Wednesday as part of a phased reopening plan.
It’ll be a slow start for the sprawling facility. Of its more than 100 stores and nearly 60 restaurants, only a select few will reopen on May 20. The first round will include mostly chains (think places like Anthropologie, Free People and Lacoste) followed by more reopenings on May 27, specifically Disney-owned and -operated venues. The Marketplace Co-Op, filled with adorable home décor and character-themed knickknacks; World of Disney, the massive gift shop brimming with branded gear and souvenirs; and fast-casual cheeseburger joint D-Luxe Burger are expected to return first.
Folks visiting Disney Springs will need to wear face coverings and have their temperature taken upon entering the facilities. To accommodate these additional safety measures, select entrances will be closed and limited parking will be available. Also, plan to see more hand-sanitizing stations sprinkled throughout.
The whimsical mall may not offer the full magical experience of a theme park, but the return of Disney Springs should bode well for those rooting for a full summer reopening. If that’s still too far off for you, we suggest channeling some of into anticipation into baking a batch of Disney’s iconic cookies. Chocolate should help tide you over.
