It’s almost that time of year again when Miami Beach swarms with art collectors and VIPs for the annual Art Basel festival. Now in its 17th year, the fair is set to take over the soon-to-be-completed Miami Beach Convention Center December 5 through 9, bringing 268 leading galleries from 34 countries to Miami.

If last year’s highlight was the return of the Bass, 2018’s high point will be the anticipated reopening of the state-of-the-art facility, now with more exhibition space to showcase the 29 new galleries making their Art Basel debut.

As in previous years, the fair comprises five sections, plus the project-based Kabinett sector and private collections from several Miami museums. Galleries is the main sector, featuring 198 international galleries that include 12 returning exhibitors such as Miami’s David Castillo Gallery. Edition presents 11 global leaders in the field of prints and editioned works. Then there’s Positions with 14 solo booths helmed by burgeoning global talents, and Nova that serves as a platform for new artists from established galleries. Finally, the five-year-old Sector brings 16 focused presentations of work created prior to the year 2000.

This is only the tip of the massive iceberg that is Art Basel Miami Beach. Check back for a full rundown of the week’s events and, of course, parties—the real reason we’re suddenly interested in art once a year.
