This community cookbook is helping Miami restaurants stay in business

'Taste of Miami,' out next month, features recipes from nearly 50 local restaurants.

Restaurant relief efforts abound in Miami, but there’s one, in particular, that’s sure to stay with you long after this is over: a cookbook. Taste of Miami is a new, fundraising tome that features recipes from more than 30 restaurants in Miami. Out next month, 100-percent of proceeds from the book will benefit each of the participating eateries and their staff.

Local ad agency Neuelane is producing Taste of Miami, donating its time and resources to give back to the community that’s sustained it for so many years. “Seeing firsthand the devastating financial impact this pandemic has caused on all restaurants—especially the local mom-and-pop restaurants that we’ve come to love—we felt the need to use our creative powers for good,” says co-founder Michael Campos. While he and partner Brandon Rodriguez are handling the bulk of the work, the duo is seeking sponsorship to offset printing and marketing costs. In part, the goal is to sell books well into next year and make this an ongoing effort.

The initial target for participation was 30 but nearly 50 restaurants have signed up to join the project. Recipes must meet two requirements to be included: they should be easy enough for a home chef to whip up and be representative of Miami’s multicultural community. As of now, the diverse compilation captures the wide breadth of cuisines with recipes from Cuba, Mexico, Peru and beyond thanks to restaurants such as Dos Croquetas, Stephen’s Deli, Cuban Guys, Phuc Yea and Coyo Taco, among others.

Copies will be available online both as an e-book ($25) and a hardcover book ($35) beginning in September. Not one for cooking? Gift them! It’s never too early to shop for holiday presents.
