From the team behind Le Violon, this Italian-style gelateria is serving some of Montreal’s best gelato in a design-forward space.

This gelateria feels lifted straight from the whimsical world of Wes Anderson.
Vintage-style letterboard menu. Marble counters and glowing amber pendant lights. Black-and-white mosaic floors.
Tucked into the ground floor of a historic limestone building in Mile End on the border of Outremont (home to Justin Trudeau—and possibly Katy Perry’s—new $4 million, 7-bedroom house), is a narrow, playful space home to some killer gelato.
(It’s no wonder the neighbourhood was recently ranked one of the coolest in the world.)
Designed by MRDK (the creatives behind the impossibly stunning sandwicherie Donato) in collaboration with artist Dan Climan, the petite shop on Rue Bernard may be tiny in size, but is big in personality.
Dalmata, the new sweet spot from the team behind Le Violon, takes classic gelateria vibes and turns them up a notch using bold colours and cinematic charm—think retro palette that's equal parts elegant and theatrical.
We’re talking about burnt orange walls, dusty pink wainscoting, a brown-and-white striped awning and black-and-white mosaic floors.
From the glowing amber pendant lights and marble counter to Climan's playful artwork, it’s a cinematic dream.
Cheeky details like the photograph of Oasis mid-scream serves as a visual punchline to the shop's unofficial motto: I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream.
The folding benches out front and vintage-style letterboard menu just add to the stylish, whimsical charm.
And we haven’t even talked about the simple, but expertly crafted soft-serve style gelato.
When the team behind one the best restaurants in North America is involved, you know it’s going to be nothing short of delicious.
