A weather advisory was issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada at 11:24 a.m. on Thursday morning.
The severe weather alert warned that temperatures will approach the freezing mark overnight in Montreal and other local areas tonight.
After record-breaking heat, frost is to be expected in some areas—particularly outside large urban areas.
RECOMMENDED: Expect dangerous wind chills and prolonged deep freezes this winter if you live in Quebec
At Montreal-Trudeau Airport (YUL), the reference site, the average first frost usually occurs around October 17.
If temperatures dip below freezing on Friday at dawn, it will be right on schedule.

Downtown Montreal typically experiences frost much later (late October) due to the urban heat island effect.
Frost advisories are issued when temperatures are forecast to drop to freezing during the growing season, posing a risk of damage or loss to plants and crops.

The advisory also warned to take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees.
